Mercedes-Benz A-Class (05 - 12)
They improved this generation of the A-Class substantially. It is better to drive, more efficient and practical. It is different looking from rivals such as the BMW 1-Series or the Audi 3 and that is down to its boxier, upright stance. It has a lot of space inside with plenty of leg/head room and there is a decent sized-boot. The cabin is nicely arranged. Most trims have soft-touch materials. It is easy to drive and park; the steering is light and the handling is excellent. There is a smooth gear-change while the driving position is nicely elevated. It fares well on the motorway but is equally at home on city streets. There is a wide range of engines, most are extremely efficient on fuel and don’t cost a fortune to keep on the road.

• It is one of the most affordable Mercedes on the market
• There is plenty of room in the cabin
• It is a really easy car to drive and park
• Fuel economy is generally good especially in diesel engines
• It is better in every department than its predecessor
• The interior is well-designed and feels high quality
What we don't like
• It can get very noisy when driving at speed
